The Price of Revival
“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.” Luke 6:46-49
So what exactly does this scripture have to do with the price of revival?
Much more than you realize. In fact… everything - and if you follow along with me, you will discover why. Let me start by pointing out certain individuals who were on fire and walked in revival power.
If you look at some of the great heroes of faith, you will find men and woman of God who had uncompromising faith. Their faith was so strong, that nothing could shake them from believing in God. They took God… at His word. There were no “ifs… and’s… or buts…” to His Word.
Just look at John G. Lake. He had healing rooms where he and/or his team prayed for the sick until they were healed. Whether it took one minute or one year, they stayed in that room and prayed, until healing came.
He was somebody who knew how to stand on the Word until the word worked.
Smith’s Wigglesworth read only the bible. He did not believe in watching television. He filled His spirit and his mind with the Word until He was so filled with it, it became his reality.
These were men who dug deep and built their life on the Rock – Jesus. There was no compromise in their faith, or at least very little. God was the truth and every man a liar.
There were no:
“By His stripes you are healed… unless you are HIV positive.”
“I have been given authority to trample over serpents and scorpions… unless that serpent has been with me all my life.”
“I can do all things through Christ… unless all odds are against me.”
No, if you are going to experience revival, it is going to take a bit of shaking. It will cost you all of your excuses. You will need to learn how to take ownership over God’s word for your life. You will need to learn how to overcome the power of the enemy by using the power of the Holy Spirit.
For indeed, when you cry out for revival and when you desire to walk in His power, the fire of the Holy Spirit will come upon you and whatever is not built on the “rock” will be shaken.
Why is that? Why do you need to be put through the fire? Why does your faith have to be tested?
Revival means getting off your spiritual plateau – it implies that you are in a spiritual rut and in need of a boost, a jolt of life in your relationship with the Lord. Even if that plateau is a high one, it is nevertheless… a plateau.
It means growing stronger in the spirit – growing in faith, in hope and in love. In order to grow and become stronger though, it means tearing down the shaky places in the foundation you have built your life upon and replacing it with the power of God.
So what is the price of revival?
Will you need to fast for 40 days and 40 nights? Do you need to pray for several hours of the day?
No, the Lord does not need your works or a song and dance from you. You cannot perform to earn revival. Perhaps a good performance may earn you the acceptance and recognition of man, but God already accepts you unconditionally, so this is not going to work.
Well how about sin? Will you need to deal with the sin in your life? Will you need to sort out your spirit and fall to your knees? He does not require perfection, nor does your good behavior add anything to Him,
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
Here you can see that you are not doing God a favor by showing Him your good deeds. You cannot earn His love, because it is already yours. Dealing with your sin does not make Him love you more or earn you the right to now approach Him. In Christ, you can already come boldly to the throne of grace.
However, He does want you to overcome; so that you may know your inheritance in Him and the power that you have been given. How else will you experience revival, but to walk in His power? And how can you walk in it, but that you use it to overcome the power of sin in your own life?
I do not mean that now you must go and straighten yourself out either. No, it is impossible to be cleansed without Him. You can only be made clean when He washes you with His Words.
You cannot sort yourself out without Jesus. You cannot deal with your fear… without Him. You cannot get over your guilt without Him. And in drawing closer to Him, you will see that He will not condemn you, but draw up His sword right beside you, and fight your battles alongside you.
His love will inspire you and His power will give you what you need to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy.
When you have come to this place of overcoming satan, with the power of the Holy Spirit, you will be as the strong young man in this scripture,
I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the Word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one. 1 John 2:14
When you know this power, then you would have learned how to stand on the Word until the word worked – you would have burned up compromise and put all excuses on the altar. When this happens, you would have learned that the power of God, the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead – lives in you and there is nothing that He cannot do.
You would have learned how to walk in revival power. Demons will know you by name, blessing and favor will follow you where you go… you will bear good fruit for those around you to eat of. You will be an inspiration to those around you. You will be so on fire that you will set others on fire too.
So then, you want revival? You want power? You want to get off your spiritual plateau? Ask the Holy Spirit and indeed, He will come with His fire. But will you yield your spirit to Him? Will you allow Him to burn away the dross and test the foundation that you have built your life upon?
Will you allow complacency and compromise in your heart, to be challenged? If so, you will go through the fire and come out a power house. If so, then you are ready to pay the price for revival.
