The Power to Create Wealth
Deuteronomy 8:16-18 who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end— 17 then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ 18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
From the beginning of time, since Adam and Eve, God’s intention was always to bless His people. He blessed Adam and Eve with a garden that had no lack. What are some of the first promises that God ever made the children of Israel?
He promised them financial blessing. Look throughout the Scriptures and you will see it. Solomon went to the Lord and asked for wisdom and the Lord told him that not only would He give him wisdom, but also wealth.
Blessing is a Basic Anointing
As I went to the Lord concerning this, He told me that this anointing is one of the most basic types of anointing. It is one of the first blessings that He gave the Body of Christ. It is the first blessing He gave Israel. The Lord provided miraculously financial and physical blessing.
It is the most basic of blessings, but we have let it go so much that it has become something unattainable. People think that you must be particularly close to God, fast a lot, be extremely righteous, obey all the laws and then once you have proved yourself to be so holy, then you will qualify for blessing and finances.
No, the blessing of God is the foundation of the good news. I have good news for you, “When you come to Christ you do not have to be sick, poor or suffer anymore because everything is available to you in Christ.” That is good news!
It is the basis of our foundation. I want to teach you today that the blessing of God is not far away. You already have it. You just do not know how to tap into it.
Tapping Into Blessing
How do we take hold of this promise that God has given us and bring it into fruition in our lives, so that there is no more failures and hitting the walls?
It All Belongs to God
I have a couple of steps for you. The first step is to realize that it all belongs to the Lord.
Exodus 16:33 And Moses said to Aaron, “Take a pot and put an omer of manna in it, and lay it up before the Lord, to be kept for your generations.”
Basically, they took some manna and put it inside the tabernacle. Then, the crazy thing is that in the tabernacle the manna never went bad. It kept for all generations. This is the same manna that they were not allowed to collect extra of because it went bad.
The Word says that the manna got worms when they took extra and stored it up. However, when they took that manna and put it inside the tabernacle, it never got destroyed.
Imagine if we had an Ark of the Covenant. Well, we do. It is in our spirits. Our manna is our daily bread. It is the things that we have and own. It is the finances that we currently have in our hands.
Perhaps, you have a salary or you get sales in your business? Either way, it is like manna and just like the manna in the Old Testament, it goes away quickly. It seems to be in one day and out the next.
You seem to be able to collect just enough to survive and then the next day it is gone again. You never seem to be able to accumulate enough manna to make it last.
You get a great promotion or some big money comes in some way and you have all these great plans. You are thinking of everything that you can do with all the finances and then things come up.
Suddenly, you have unexpected bills, expenses, kids need clothes, you need money for schooling and many more things too.
You sit there thinking, “Lord, you just provided me all these finances and they are gone already.” You start feeling guilty and thinking that you need to learn to manage finances better. You think you need to be tighter and stricter with your spending.
Give Up Your Portion
No. You just need to start putting your money in the Ark of the Covenant. You know we have a strange way of thinking as believers. When it comes to the work of the ministry we look to the Lord for revelation and direction, but when it comes to careers we look to the world to help us out. That thinking needs to change.
Now what about your money? How many monetary decisions have you made before where you actually included the Lord in making the decision? When you get your salary, do you hold it up to the Lord and say, “What do I do with this money this month? Every time you get your money you have already decided in your head what you are going to do with it.
You have decided that you will pay this bill, you will give this, you need to buy this and before you know it you are shopping and your money is gone.
The Lord is saying that if you want to walk in His business anointing with His unlimited finances and resources, then you must give Him your small portion and He will multiply it like He did with the fishes and loaves of bread.
Until you do this your little portion of manna cannot be multiplied. You are so busy making these decisions yourself that you have not even stopped to think that you should ask the Lord about it. The bottom line is that it means letting go of your control. Everyone always says, “It is not my money. It is God’s money.”
Is it really? The Lord tested me so badly on that one time. He said, “Let us see if you can live what you preach.”
It Does Not Belong to You
We had a situation where some money was due to us and we were working with some merchant accounts and we were doing transfers from one bank account to another. Suddenly, someone made a large donation meant for us, but it went into somebody else’s account.
I was so mad. I said, “Lord, that was our money.” He said, “Oh really? It is your money now, huh? I thought you dedicated your life to me. I thought all the money and everything else you have belongs to me?”
He said, “What if I wanted that money to go there? Did it occur to you that I wanted to take that money and give it to somebody else?” I said, “Lord, I die.” I felt like such a worm.
I felt so selfish, prideful, and full of the deceitfulness of riches. I felt terrible. It never even occurred to me that someone was putting out their faith for finances and the Lord decided to take some of the finances He gave us and give it to them.
Are you that open to the Lord? Can He say, “I see you have one thousand dollars left in your account, do you mind if I take that and give it to somebody else?” Or are you going to say, “Lord, hang on one minute. Let us have a discussion about this. Should not this be a little give and take here?.... You give and I take?”
As far as I am concerned and as far as the Word teaches, a covenant relationship means that everything He has is mine and everything I have is His. We have no problem digging into His pockets at any time.
We are always saying that we have a need and receiving from Him. However, when the Lord says that He has a need we tell Him to find someone else to provide. Are you His vessel or not?
Store your Treasure in the Ark of the Covenant
The first step in walking in His business anointing is this step right here. Matthew 6:19 - 21:
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
So, where is your treasure? Is it in the Ark of the Covenant or is it in this lovely list that you have made with everything you want to buy on it? Where is your treasure? So, how do you do it?
It is actually simple and fun. Every time you get money in you bring it to the Lord. Every cent you get you give it to Him and you say, “You know my needs, my expenses and everything going on in my life, but I give these finances to you.”
I found that, for me, the best way to do it was through journaling. It is much easier when you are writing things down, especially when the Lord is giving you direction because you cannot keep it all in your head.
It also makes you focus. When you are journaling about it you are forced to really look at the subject. Just ask Him exactly what He wants you to do with it. The Lord is so amazing. These are some of the things He will say.
He may say, “I brought this in specifically so that you can pay your expenses.” He could say, “Someone has a need and I need you to give this away.” However, there are times when He will say, “This amount here I have given to you because I want to bless you. Go, take it and spend it on whatever you desire.”
There is such a joy in being able to take that money, go to the store and just blow it for the fun of it. You can do it without any guilt, fear or after thought. When God tells you to blow it, then you have a party.
Spend When God Says So
Let us be honest. When you have money and you make a purchase that is a bit much, you are not feeling good when you get home. You are feeling guilty and think that you should not have done that.
That thinking steals away from the blessing that the Lord really wants you to walk in. All you are thinking about is what you do not have. You are not thinking forward. You are thinking back.
You are looking at your needs, guilt and the mountain in front of you. You do not even realize that God wants to bless you in a greater abundance. He wants to bless you more than anything. You must change your mentality and make it a habit.
When the Lord told us to do this, we made it a practice and we journaled about every single amount that came in. For us, it comes in pieces all the time because of the ministry that we are in. We do not have a set salary.
We put out our faith and God provides. That is how we live. We live by faith. Therefore, it was a lot easier for us to do that. Whenever an amount came in we said, “Lord, what do you want us to do?”
Sometimes, He would say, “Spend it. I gave it to you as a blessing. You all have been working hard and you need a break. Take the kids out and go and enjoy yourselves. It is a blessing to you from me.”
Then, we could spend without fear because we knew that since the Lord told us to spend the money that we would have more money coming in. However, it was not often like that.
God Knows the End from the Beginning
Often, He would say, “Hold onto that because something is coming up in the near future and you are going to need that money to invest.” He would also say, “You are going to hit a bit of a snag in the next while and that is the money you are going to use to cover it.
Not knowing what the future holds is what gives us the greatest fear, is it not? You wonder if you spend these finances if something is going to come up. You never really know, so you are always trying to figure it out in your mind.
As things turn out, we serve a God that knows the end from the beginning. He knows the future. So, why do you not just ask? Just say, “Lord, should I give this away? What are you telling me?”
The Best Bank Manager
It brings such a rest when you let that control go. He is a pretty good bank manager. He has been doing it for some time now. He has had a heavenly bank account set up since the foundation of the earth and His interest rates are fantastic.
He knows how to manage your money. He knows you better than you know yourself. He knows your needs, desires and even your greeds. He knows what is in you and what you need in order to make things happen.
It is like taking that money and putting it in the Ark of the Covenant. Do you know what you are going to find? You are going to find that your money is going to last longer. You are going to literally trip over deals. That is the first thing that I discovered.
When I made an effort to bring our finances to the Lord and He told us what to do with it, the money just stretched and stretched. I thought, “I cannot believe that we just bought all of that with this little bit of money.”
You just get wisdom for your spending and you trip over these deals. It is so incredible that you think, “Why did I not do this before?” When I did that, the little portion of manna that I had lasted longer and it did not go bad.
Sometimes, I even came home with change, which is very rare for me because I have an extremely amazing gift. It does not matter how much there is in my wallet. When I go shopping I will spend it to the dollar.
I do not even need to look at how much money there is. Craig, my husband, even tries to hide money from me sometimes. However, we will go to the checkout and every time the amount will be right up to the last dollar that he was stashing away.
Enjoy the Fruits of Your Labor
When was the last time that you really enjoyed shopping and spending time with your family? When was the last time that you truly enjoyed the fruits of your labor?
How many promises did the Lord give the children of Israel about being able to sit and eat of the fruits of the vine? He told them to rest, eat the figs, press the wine, eat the honey and drink the milk.
He wants us to enjoy what He has given us, with the only condition that we put Him in control. The Word is clear, you cannot serve two masters. You can serve God or you can serve money. What is making your financial decisions today? Is the need for finances making your decisions or is God making the decisions?
You see, money itself is not the root of all evil - the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. So put God in charge. Let Him be the source of your love. Then the flesh, your money and your future will lie in good hands. When God is motivating you, then you can rest assured that the blessing will surely follow. In God is the source of all blessing and wealth. Tap into Christ and you tap into the solution to your financial lack!
